Darts Knockout Competition
This year we were drawn against Warmingham WI and we met at The Vicarage, Holmes Chapel, for an afternoon of laughs, drinks and nibbles, in early December. Unfortunately we didn't progress to the next round but we had fun trying.

Christmas Party
Group Carol Service
Holmes Chapel WI hosted last year's Group Carol Service at St Luke's Church and was held on Sunday 14th December at 2pm. This was followed by coffee and mince pies in St Luke's Hall. We also drew the winning ticket for our quilt which we raffled in aid of the Church Roof Appeal. More information in our Spring Newsletter coming soon. Updated 2nd March 2015 |
WW1 Exhibition
The exhibition described the work of the Local History Group of the U3A on how the First World War affected life in the village. It described not only the men who went to war but how life at home was affected: Belgian refugees, agriculture, the local hospital, rationing, rules and regulations and much more.
The Exhibition was excellent and all their hard work was rewarded as it was well attended on both days. A series of 11 booklets covering various aspects of the war’s impact in and around Holmes Chapel can be found on their website. We were honoured to be asked to provide refreshments for the Saturday and our members donated cakes to be sold to raise money which we donated to the local British Legion. Village Fair
Updated 9th May 2014
The Village Fair on Sunday 4th May was a great success. Well done to the Victoria Club for all their hard work. The weather was kind and the rain held off so loads of visitors, culminating in a fly pass by a Hurricane. Here are some photos of the day.

Our Coffee Morning this year was held on 26th April 2014 at St Luke's Hall, and our Cake and Produce Stall, Bric-a-Brac Stall, Books and Tombola all did a roaring trade. We also had a plant stall and skin care stall, with the local Guides selling cards, key rings etc, all to raise funds for their International trip next year.

Special RaffleOur Patchwork Ladies have been busy and hard at work to produce this fantastic large patchwork quilt, and they have very generously donated it for us to raffle off. We have been selling tickets at our Coffee Morning, Village Fair, our Spring Group WI meeting and will continue to sell as many tickets as possible whenever we can.
The draw is going to take place at the Group WI Carol Service, which this year is being organised by ourselves and being held at St Luke's Church on 14th December. We are having tea/coffee and mince pies in St Luke's Hall afterwards where the draw will take place. |
Birthday Party
In March for our Birthday Meeting we had a fantastic hot pot supper with lovely crispy crust, accompanied by red cabbage and beetroot. Beech Tree Catering did us proud once again and we enjoyed either their special Trifle or Raspberry Pavlova. The ladies were greeted with a glass of sherry and to finish we were treated to birthday cake baked by our very own 'MasterChef' Ann Stafford. Throughout the evening we were entertained by two local girls, Eirlys and Georgina, who sang and played keyboards. A great time was had by all. We asked our longest serving member, Margaret Mustill, to do the honour of cutting the cake.

Our Two Gold Standard Ladies
Margaret and Maime with their flowers
Updated 5th February 2013
Recently we introduced, as a complete surprise, our own Gold Standard to celebrate two remarkable members.
At the meeting when presentations were made to long-standing, still regularly attending members Mrs Margaret Mustill and Mrs Mamie Bell who have been members for 55 years and 53 years respectively. At a presentation evening President Linda Taylor, with the full support of everyone present, remarked that their commitment and support was something very special and possibly unlikely to be repeated.
To mark their service both Margaret and Mamie were made Golden Members of Holmes Chapel WI. They were presented with bouquets and a Cheshire Federation brooch to mark their elevation to their special status.
Mamie has served as the WI’s Chairman and also as its Secretary whilst both she and Margaret have put in years of service on the Committee, as members of the bowling team, singers in the choir that existed for many years and have given untold help at a whole range of events including shows, the Cheshire Show, coffee mornings, trips to Denman College and other meetings.
After the presentation and repeated in their subsequent ‘thank you’ letters to the President, the Golden Ladies both remarked how much they had valued and enjoyed their time in the WI, the many friends they had made and the things they had done and learned. They both looked forward to remaining members for some time to come!
